Medieval Cathedrals
The most obvious sign of wealth was medieval cathedrals. A cathedral is basically were the bishop has his head quarters. It doesn't matter about the size of the church, if it didn't have a bishop in it then it wasn't considered a cathedral. Most Cathedrals are in Europe. Christian people went to pray to God at cathedrals. They took communion and talked about there priest. People got married there, had baptisms, funerals etc. Cathedrals weren't just used for religious ceremonies.
When important things needed to be said people met in a cathedral. People also gathered in cathedrals for safety reasons. Catholic churches played a major role in Europe, it was the center of town life. In the middle ages the catholic church became rich and powerful. People would give their money to the church. If you were wealthy you could give the church land. The church didn't have to pay the king any taxes for their land.
